MainStreets Annapolis Partnership Business Legacy Awards

Open For Business

As part of National Preservation Month, Annapolis Mayor Joshua J. Cohen and Historic Preservation Chief Lisa Craig announced an event that will honor businesses that demonstrate an enduring commitment to serving residents and visitors while supporting the economic vitality of our neighborhood business districts.

The inaugural MainStreets Annapolis Partnership (MAP) Business Legacy Awards will take place on May 31st from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. at the Calvert House, Historic Inns of Annapolis. The Legacy Awards recognize many aspects of these sustaining businesses including the commitment of the business owners to the stewardship of their properties, the rich family histories associated with these businesses, the generations of Annapolitans whose careers began with these local businesses, and the role of these businesses as ambassadors for Annapolis.

This year’s inaugural awards event will showcase businesses in the traditional neighborhood districts of Annapolis that have been in existence for more than 50 years.  Two dozen qualifying businesses will be recognized with a custom designed award from another long-time Annapolis business, Annapolis Pottery.

MAP President Steve Samaras with Zachary’s Jewelers recognizes the legacy established by these businesses. “We are so fortunate to have so many great locally-owned businesses committed to our historic commercial neighborhoods.  From the Stevens family to the Donners and the Heidlers, Hynsons, Hyatts and Campbells.  It’s just terrific to know that generations of these families are still here serving the needs of our residents and visitors.”
