Millersville Builder Must Repay Nearly $2M In Plea Bargain. A Maryland builder must repay almost $2 million after having pleaded guilty Friday to conspiracy and committing bank and wire fraud. Christopher DeBlauw, 44, of Millersville, accepted a plea agreement in a Norfolk, Va., court in which he pleaded guilty to participating in a conspiracy that bilked four banks out of $1.8 million. The charges against DeBlauw developed when several homebuyers became upset with problems his company was having while building their homes. A Maryland doctor ultimately took his concerns to state and federal investigators.
Workers Wear Life Jackets To Work. Casual Friday took on a whole new meaning at offices across the Baltimore region, where many employees wore life jackets to work. The Maryland Natural Resources Police Department came up with the idea to increase boating safety awareness, citing statistics that show 75 to 80 percent of boating deaths result from drowning. NRP said many of the deaths could have been prevented with the use of a life jacket. Last year alone, 24 people died in boating accidents in Maryland — nearly double the 10-year average of 13 deaths.
Annapolis Traffic Stop Nets $16K In Heroin. A traffic stop and a strange request led to a huge drug bust in Annapolis earlier this week. About $16,000 in heroin was uncovered about 4:30 p.m. Monday when police pulled over a Lincoln on Frederick Douglas Street because it didn’t have a front license plate. Officers said they discovered the driver, 20-year-old Deon Matthews, had a suspended license. Police said his passenger, Demarrow Williams, 20, had three bench warrants out for his arrest, and they also found drug residue and bogus painkiller prescriptions in the car.
