Four local residents were recognized by 200 Rotarians and guests at the 2012 Service Above Self Awards dinner held April 19 at the Loews Annapolis Hotel, hosted by the Rotary Club of Annapolis with the Rotary Club of Parole, the Rotary Club of South Anne Arundel County, and the Annapolis Evening Rotary Club.

At the event are, from left, Parole Rotary honoree The Reverend MaAn Barcelo for her work providing homework and reading assistance to school children in the Annapolis area, South County honoree Bruce Michalec for his service as Executive Director of the Anne Arundel County Food Bank, keynote speaker Peter Kyle of the Rotary Club of Potomac, Annapolis Rotary honoree Dr. Fedra Wittig for her work providing free dental care to people in remote areas of the world, and Annapolis Evening Rotary honoree Dian “CJ” Cornelius-James for her support of breast cancer research.  The Service Above Self awards are given annually to non-Rotarians for outstanding contributions to the community.
