In my opinion, there are a number of great choices for Mexican food in the general Parole area. For instance, we love the burrito bowl at Chipolte, an amazing combination of tastes for the mere cost of $6.37. Chevy’s delicious fish taco platter is highly recommended, and the newcomer, Plazuelas (located across the street from Lee Airpark) is a real favorite!
Another name that keeps coming up is Sin Fronteras Café , serving “Mex-Latin Cuisine” at 2129 Forest Drive, located across the street from Colonial Florist in a small strip center.
We arrived just before noon, and the restaurant was not busy. We were greeted and shown to a comfortable booth across from the entrance. The room included a bar area with a TV, orange walls and a ceramic tile floor. There was also an adjacent eating area – a larger dining room with round and square tables. We noticed that the décor was simple and the atmosphere was relaxed.
Yummy, warm chips and tasty salsa arrived as we looked over the menu. After our iced teas with lime were served, we had needed more time to review the choices. The menu was divided into several sections: appetizers, soups & salads, and entrees, and mentioned that Mexican breakfast is available all day.
I chose a Honduran specialty called baleadas – homemade tortillas (2), stuffed with refried beans, fresh grated cheese, avocado, shredded chicken, and imported cream (which I requested not be added). This was wonderful! The tortillas were light and almost crispy and the filling was delicious. I would order this item again!
Paul ordered a chicken burrito and was not as happy with his selection because it was cold. He reported this to the server and in no time a brand new meal was placed in front of him! I thought it looked very appetizing, served with a side salad of lettuce, tomatoes, and cheese, that he shared with me. The burrito was generously filled with rice, beans, and shredded chicken. Paul preferred my baleades.
The owner came around and introduced himself. He mentioned that they would soon be adding salmon and other new fish items to the menu. We will certainly return to sample them and also to try the tacos.
Lunch for 2- $23.26 plus tip.
