Annapolis and Anne Arundel County Conference & Visitor’s Bureau
The mission of the Bureau is to plan, produce and promote programs designed to increase the volume of leisure and business visitors to the area while preserving the community and managing the travel and tourism industry. Volunteers are needed at the West St. Visitor Center and City Dock Information Booth to provide visitors with knowledgeable, appropriate, and current information to assist them in having the best possible experience. Help is also needed for computer data entry. Completion of a training program and a 3-month provisional period is required of new volunteers; participation in ongoing training and continuing education is required for all volunteers. This nonprofit provides loving homes for adults and children with developmental disabilities. Bello Machre is currently offering a variety of opportunities including: someone to pick up pastry donations from Starbucks on Thursdays between 11 am–3:00 pm; a volunteer with sewing experience to help a resident artist with putting together a display for next year’s art show: friendly and outgoing individual to serve as a scheduling assistant; and, a development assistant to help manage the volunteer program. Camp Blaze Children’s Fair, Sat., May 5, 2012

- · 9 am – 3 pm, Sat., May 5th, Camp Blaze 26th Annual Children’s Fair: Camp Blaze needs volunteers to assist with the Annual Children’s Fair to be held on May 5 from 9am–3 pm at the Big Vanilla Athletic Club, 1209 Ritchie Highway, Arnold. The Fair will again celebrate Hometown Heroes for an uplifting, fun, and educational day for the entire family. Highlights include health screenings, Extreme Sports– free clinics and demonstrations throughout the day, and a silent auction to benefit Special Needs Children and much more. If you are 13 years old or older, looking for community service hours, or just a fun way to give back to the community volunteer on Fri., May 4, 2 pm– 4 pm for set up or 5–8pm for decorating or Sat. Chesapeake Ecology Center
The Chesapeake Ecology Center (CEC) works with its members, volunteers, community groups, and students, including at-risk students at Adams Academy at Adams Park (where it is based), to provide environmental education and, at the same time, develop on-the-ground habitat restoration/protection projects. The CEC holds volunteer education/planting days and tours mid-April through November, and provides technical assistance to a variety of community and school groups for their projects. In addition to numerous on-the-ground restoration projects at the CEC and elsewhere, it promotes conservation landscaping through a variety of media, and through presentations and tours of the CEC’s 18 Native Plant Demonstration Gardens and Sites. Cool Kids Campaign
The mission of the nonprofit Cool Kids Campaign is to provide pediatric oncology patients a higher quality of life for themselves and their families. This is accomplished through a variety of participatory fundraising events, including an Ebay store in Pasadena, MD, “Whatddya Got to Sell”, and a newsletter all of which serve to connect kids and their families while facing the challenges of cancer. Emmaus Center is a nonprofit organization which serves poor and homeless people to give them a sense of community by providing resources that otherwise would not be available. A variety of volunteer opportunities are available including office assistance, help with lunch preparation, counseling, grant writing, and more. Volunteer tradesmen will also be needed to help with construction of the new facility. There is also an immediate need for someone expert with WordPress blogging software. Food Link Maryland
Established in 1991, this non-profit hunger relief organization provides free food and other essentials to people in need in Anne Arundel County and four counties on the Eastern Shore. Volunteers with trucks or vans are needed to pick up food from distribution centers, restaurants and others and deliver to food pantries, shelters and other locations serving the hungry. Assist with emergency food pantry and emergency baby pantry items. There is a critical need for donations of non-perishable food items such as canned meat, tuna, peanut butter and jelly, saltines, chunky soups, and pasta sauce. Leadership Anne Arundel (LAA)
The mission of this non-profit organization is to educate and train a diverse group of individuals to become more effective community leaders. Volunteers age 19 and up are needed on a part-time basis from time to time to help with office work. In addition, applications are now being accepted for the 2013 Flagship Program. This program is the core LAA program which includes an intense curriculum of civic information and leadership development skills. Each summer approximately 40-45 individuals are selected for this comprehensive, hands-on multi-disciplinary study of AA County. The class is composed of a cross-section of the AA County community, representing our ethically, socially economically, and geographically diverse population.
