Annapolis Mayor Joshua J. Cohen is pleased to report that the community Compost Bin & Rain Barrel Truckload Sale was a great success.

K&B True Value worked with the Annapolis Department of Neighborhood and Environmental Programs’ Sustainable Annapolis Program, at no cost to the city, to publicize and execute a Truckload Sale program for Backyard Compost Bins and Rain Barrels on March 17 and 18. Additionally, K&B True Value sold kitchen collectors, compost turners, flexible elbow spouts, and other accessories.

Overall, K&B True Value sold 670 Compost Bins & Rain Barrels and 160 composting accessories.  Together, they will help to reduce the detrimental effects of stormwater runoff on our waterways and divert food waste away from entering the landfill

“Along with K& B True Value, I want to thank the Annapolis Environmental Commission and the Anne Arundel County Master Watershed Stewards who provided volunteers to help explain the installation instructions and use of these products,” Department of Neighborhood and Environmental Programs Director Maria Broadbent said. “I understand how valuable their time is and I appreciate their efforts.”

Once the rain barrels are installed, Annapolis residents can apply for a credit on their water bills by going to www.annapolis.gov.  Anne Arundel County Master Watershed Stewards are available for rain barrel installation assistance at 443-837-5589 or [email protected].  Additional tips are available at www.aawsa.org or www.rainscaping.org.
