There is something about the character of Boatyard Bar & Grill that is very inviting. It could be the high ceilings and lots of windows that provide a bright and open feeling. Then, it might be the abundance of interesting wall décor that just screams Annapolis! We like to bring our out-of-town guests for both the food and the ambiance. The address is 400 4th Street in Eastport.
Even though Boatyard is a favorite, parking can often be a problem, as there are a very limited number of off-street spaces located in front of the restaurant. However, if you go behind the building and down an alley, there is a small parking lot. On this particular visit, we avoided the problem by arriving for lunch just before noon and had no problem getting a space in the rear lot.
My husband ordered his favorite, the Open Face Blue Crab Melt. This treat consists of a split English muffin covered with crab imperial, and a layer of tomatoes, topped with melted cheese. It had a toasted, tasty appearance.
I ordered my usual favorite, the fish sandwich of the day. In this case it was pan seared Mahi Mahi that usually comes on a Kaiser roll with lettuce and tomato. From previous visits, I noted that the menu mentions a wheat roll for other sandwiches, which I requested. We both selected fresh fruit as our side dish, which was chunky and delicious. Other side choices included fries, cole slaw, or pasta salad. We enjoyed regular refills of iced tea by our attentive server.
The only criticism involved presentation. My smallish fish sandwich was served on the same sized large white plate, as my husband’s crab melt meal. Although it turned out to be very good, my fish sandwich looked pathetic on that wide-open plate with only a small cup of fruit. Either a smaller plate was in order, or some kind of garnish to fill in the gaps.
We’ll be back, I’m sure, and I will probably explore the menu to try something new.
