Annapolis Hires Consultant Team To Look At City Dock

Annapolis Mayor Joshua J. Cohen announced that the City has retained a consultant team to assist the citizen-led City Dock Advisory Committee (CDAC)  in formulating a plan to revitalize City Dock.  The consultant team will meet with the full CDAC at its monthly meeting next month.

This specialized nine member team brings experience and expertise in urban waterfront redevelopment in historic contexts, development economics and public private partnerships, zoning, urban and civic design, and the intricacies of downtown parking and mobility.

“Since becoming Mayor I have made City Dock the priority for our planning efforts,” Mayor Cohen said.  “It is our town’s crown jewel, but with acres of waterfront consumed by surface parking, we are failing to realize its potential.  I am thrilled that Planning and Zoning has retained a truly top-notch consultant team to support the City Dock Advisory Committee and engage the broader community in breathing new life into this historic asset.”

The team will involve the public by holding two public forums and five interactive meetings with the CDAC over a 6-month period to provide transparency and allow for meaningful and ongoing public input. The Master Plan will build on the recommendations documented in the CDAC Phase 1 Report – Visions and Guiding Principles for the City Dock Area. Once completed, the Master Plan will be presented to City Council for adoption, with review by the Planning Commission and Historic Preservation Commission.

The Master Plan will address pedestrian accessibility issues at City Dock including standing water, narrow or obstructed sidewalks, parking, and traffic concerns.

The Plan will meet the need for parking while respecting other means of transportation to, through, and within City Dock. Overall, the Plan will outline the potential for additional use and activities in the City Dock area, ensuring the historic and maritime integrity of the land and buildings will be protected during the process.
“We’re very pleased with the team we’ve put together and are looking forward to an interesting, creative, and productive process of working with them over the next six months,” City Planning Director Jon Arason said.
