J. Ernest Green and the Annapolis Chorale conclude the 2011-2012 season on Friday and Saturday, April 20-21 with one of the grandest choral works ever written, Giuseppe Verdi’s Requiem.  Maryland Hall’s auditorium will reverberate when the 160 voices of the Chorale sing this demanding and beautiful piece, which includes the well-known “Dies Irae.”  Performing with the Chorale are the Annapolis Chamber Orchestra and a quartet of guest soloists, soprano Christina Lamberti, mezzo soprano Madeleine Gray, tenor Jonathan Winell and bass Shouvik Mondle.

Live Arts Maryland offers two very different opportunities to experience the “Requiem.” The April 20 Casual Friday event at 7:30 p.m. is an informal musical conversation between Mr. Green, the singers and the audience.  Mr. Green will take the audience inside the piece, explaining why it’s called the greatest opera Verdi ever wrote, delving into why it’s so demanding on singers and soloists and examining at its structure.  Casual Friday also includes a post-performance question-and-answer session with guest artists.  Saturday, April 21, features a more formal 8 p.m. performance that begins with a pre-concert talk by Mr. Green at 7 p.m. in the auditorium.  Tickets range from $34-$37 for adults, $12 for pre-sold students and are on sale now at the Maryland Hall Box Office at 410-280-5640 or www.marylandhall.org.  There is a $3 per-ticket service charge for individual tickets.

Area music students may attend these concerts free using the Live Arts Maryland Student Rush program.  To get a free ticket, all students with valid IDs and those under 18 may go to the Maryland Hall Box Office a half-hour before curtain on performance nights to receive one ticket per student.

The Annapolis Chorale is presented by Live Arts Maryland, one of the region’s largest and most active non-profit arts organizations dedicated to enhancing community life by performing and presenting high-quality music and providing music education for all ages.  Live Arts Maryland is also home to the Annapolis Chamber Orchestra, the Annapolis Youth Chorus and the St. Anne’s Concert Series.  It also offers such music education programs as the MusicWorks school partnership and a scholarship program for high-school music students.  The Annapolis Chorale is a resident company of Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts and is supported by the Maryland State Arts Council, the Arts Council of Anne Arundel County and the City of Annapolis.
