Anne Arundel Teacher Accepts Plea In Student Sex Case. An Anne Arundel County teacher is facing 10 years in prison after entering a plea last week to charges that he was having sexual relations with students on and off campus.Jeffery Sears accepted an Alford plea on Friday, which means he didn’t admit guilt but admitted that prosecutors had enough evidence against him for a conviction.

Officer Struck In Anne Arundel County. A police officer struck Sunday evening in Anne Arundel County was taken to Shock Trauma as officers searched for a person who they said fled from the scene.Authorities said the officer was struck during a routine traffic stop on eastbound Route 50 near Route 665. Police said two vehicles came around a corner and one rear-ended the other, which then hit the officer.

Nearly 100 Firefighters Battle Brush Fire In Edewater. Nearly 100 firefighters battled to put out a brush fire at the Holiday Point Marina in Edgewater on Sunday afternoon.The fire started just before 2 p.m. Sunday and threatened nearby homes and boats at the marina, fire officials said.It took crews about three hours to put out the flames.Despite the severity of the fire, officials said only one building and one boat were destroyed.No injuries were reported.

Anne Arundel County Officials Issue Open Burning Ban. Anne Arundel County officials issued a ban on open burning Saturday due to dry conditions.The Anne Arundel County Health Department ceased issuing open burn permits, and all previously issued open burn permits were suspended until further notice.All recreational burning such as camp fires and the use of outdoor fire places were also included in the open burning ban.Warm spring temperatures, low humidity and dry conditions create dry vegetation that can result in brush fires that burn and spread quickly.
