Sushi In Deale? Sure Thing

English: A sushi bento.

Sushi in Deale? What could be more appropriate for an old Chesapeake Bay fishing village?

At Deale Umai Sushi House you can feast on a wide selection of seafoods in the Japanese and Korean tradition. or enjoy scrumptious dishes of beef (such as Bulgoki from Korea), chicken (chicken yakisoba), or pork (Jae Yook Bok Eum), to name a few. Vegetarians will be happy to find a generous assortment of all-veggie dishes (tempura, teriyaki, yakisoba…). And, as the name implies, the sushi menu is extensive and beautifully served.

Miso soup, of course, heads the appetizer menu, but there’s also a seaweed salad, Umai balls (scallions and cream cheese dumplings), and shrimp or beef dumplings. For the best bargain of all, ask for a Bento Box – a sort of sampler meal available in beef, chicken, sashimi-sushi or veggie styles.  Not on the menu, but available if you ask is excellent home-made kim-chi (Korean vegetable pickle) – spicy and crunchy!

All this in a quiet, friendly setting in the center of downtown Deale,  just a half-hour’s drive south of Annapolis on the western shore of the Bay.

Deale Umai Sushi House is located in a small strip mail at 657 Deale Road, Deale, Maryland 20751, roughly across the street from the U.S. Post Office. They don’t yet have a website, but you can call them at 410-867-4433 (Fax: 410-867-1063). They’re open Monday through Saturday for lunch (10:30 a.m.  to 2:30 p.m.) and dinner (5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.). Closed Sundays. And, yes, they do carryout.

You can read Bay Weekly’s review on them here.
