Once Upon A Mattress Coming To Annapolis High

Once Upon a Mattress

If you thought you knew the story of The Princess and the Pea, you may be in for a walloping surprise!  Did you know that it wasn’t the pea that caused the princess a sleepless night or that Princess Winnifred (Rachel Hogan ’13) actually swam the moat to reach Dauntless the Drab (Joe Doyle ’12)?  How about that Lady Larkin’s (Lauren Gehring ’12) love for Sir Harry (Trevor Queen ’12) provided for a rather compelling reason that she reach the bridal altar post haste?

Join the overbearing Queen Aggravain (Hannah Holt ’12), mute King Sextimus (Sammy Stagg ’13), the two headed Jester (Peter Sykora and Jay Sullivan ’12), mystifying Wizard (Haines Whitaker ’12) and the Minstrel (Cora Lesure ’12) as they are carried on a wave of wonderful songs, by turns hilarious and raucous, romantic, and melodic, this rollicking spin on the familiar classic of royal courtship and comeuppance provides for some sidesplitting shenanigans.  Chances are you’ll never look at fairy tales quite the same way again.

Kathleen Taylor’s (’12) set design, Alex Salem (’12), Cora Lesure (’12) and Skye Conlin’s (’14) props and costumes, and Julie Nolker’s (’14) light design will take you “many moons ago to a far off  place.”

Students from Rolling Knolls Elementary will also make a special appearance.
The March 11 show will have American Sign Language interpretation.
