Donna McCartney, author of the children’s Nautical Mile Book Series, will announce the winner of the Chesapeake Bay Revival Coloring Contest, a program she created to recognize the outstanding work of area students who can best capture the Chesapeake Bay through their own original artwork. Launched last September and open to schools throughout the entire Chesapeake Bay region, students were asked to create an original drawing about the Chesapeake Bay on a standard piece of paper. In total, 36 schools participated, with 67 pieces of artwork chosen as semi-finalists which have been on display at the Chesapeake Bay Mar

itime Museum since January.

The winning student will be unveiled at the event and will be awarded a $500 shopping spree to Toys R Us, a signed copy of the first Nautical Mile book Salty Summer, other prizes and $1,000 will be awarded to their school for conservation education.  The other finalists will win books, t-shirts and more from the Chesapeake Bay Trust and BoatUS. To select the winner, the entries were judged by the Chesapeake Conservation Corps volunteers of the Chesapeake Bay Trust, members of the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum, and the author of the Nautical Mile Series on originality, message and quality of work. The event is free and open to the public.

The Nautical Mile Book Series (www.nauticalmilebooks.com) is a collection of five children’s books about young friends and their adventures on the Chesapeake Bay.  The first in the series, Salty Summer, was published in October 2011 with a portion of the net proceeds from the series being donated to the Chesapeake Bay Trust for education and restoration efforts.

The event will take place on Saturday, March 10, 2012 at 3:00 pm at the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum. (213 N. Talbot Street, St. Michaels, MD 21663)
