Annapolis and Anne Arundel County Chamber of Commerce

The Chamber has a part-time volunteer opportunity available for approximately 4-5 hours per day, 4-days per week, for light office duties such as answering the phone, helping with mailings, assembling packets, etc.  This could work for two volunteers as well if the hours were split up.  For further information and to volunteer, contact Heidi Howard at [email protected] or 410 266-3960 x100

 

BWI Pathfinder Volunteers

Volunteers are needed to staff airport information desks, 7days a week, 365 days a year. Volunteers are required to commit to one weekly 4-hour shift. Shifts are 5-9am, 9-1pm, 1-5pm or 5-9pm. Available shifts are subject to change. Uniforms and garage parking are provided. Volunteers assist with airport, airline, and flight information, which includes: crisis management and problem solving, directions and translation.  Volunteers are also needed to assist with tourist information, which includes:  ground transportation and driving directions, hotel reservations, and promoting state attractions, parks and businesses. Community Preservation & Development Corp. (CPDC) Wiley H. Bates Senior Residence

The Bates Senior Residence is operated in Annapolis by CPDC, a nonprofit organization that creates and preserves financially sound, socially responsible affordable housing for low and moderate income individuals and families.   We encourage you to volunteer with us in making an economic and social difference in our communities. CPDC is always looking for energetic and innovative volunteers including youth interns, retired professionals, stay-at-home caregivers, and clerical, technological, and organizational skilled individuals. Ride for the Feast, May 19-20, 2012

Moveable feast provides home delivered meals for clients who are homebound with HIV/AIDS. Volunteers, as young as 16 (15 & under w/adult) are needed to deliver meals Mon.– Fri. between 9 am–3 pm and 5 pm–8 pm. Meal delivery takes about 1 hr and drivers have flexibility in setting their schedules. Volunteers are asked to deliver once a week or once a month.   • ·         May 19-20, 2012, Tenth Annual Ride for the Feast Fundraiser: A variety of volunteers are needed for this event encompassing two days and 140 miles of road biking from Ocean City to Baltimore, MD.  Crew members are needed for events and support leading up to the event, as well as on the days of the ride. Flex Volunteer Projects

  • ·         9:00 AM-12:00 PM, Sat., February 11, 2012: Books for International Goodwill (B.I.G.) is looking for a small group of volunteers to help with the preparation of small shipments of used books such as those provided to members of the armed forces and the Peace Corps. Happy Helpers for the Homeless

This nonprofit organization provides food, toiletries, and clothing to the hungry and homeless.  Volunteers, as young as 6, are needed Saturdays (11:30am-2:30pm) and Sundays (1:00-4:00pm) to assist in distributing items and bag lunches in downtown Baltimore and Glen Burnie.  Ongoing donations needed: men’s socks, toiletry items, men’s clothing, blankets, shoes in very good condition, sturdy napkins/paper towels, mustard, juice boxes, fold-over sandwich bags, lunch meat and fresh fruit. Ongoing through winter is the, coat, blanket, and gloves drive. Volunteers can meet in Glen Burnie to caravan up to Baltimore. There is also a critical need for cash donations to help pay rent for space used by Happy Helpers.  Contact Bobbi Coffman at 443-433-2416 for more information about volunteering on all projects and events.

  • ·         Bag a Breakfast Project. Put together a bag breakfast for a homeless individual. Include box of cereal, with spoon and cup, poptart, fruit, hot chocolate package with cup and spoon, juice box, and napkin.  Can be done anytime. Just drop off at Happy Helpers. Additional events for which volunteers may be needed:
  • ·         10:00 am–3:00 pm, Annual Birthday Party for the Homeless, and 4:30-7:30 pm, Sat., March 3, 2012, Anniversary/Awards: The events are held at Bay Area Community Church, 884 Chesterfield Rd., Annapolis 21401. Lunch, ice cream cake, entertainment, and presents abound at the Birthday Party. Well over 100 distinguished awards will be presented to truly amazing volunteers at the Awards Celebration in the evening.
  • ·         9:00 am–4:00 pm, Sat., Mar. 31, 2012, 5th Annual Homeless Resource Day: Happy Helpers will volunteer for this event at the Glen Burnie High School. Volunteers must be at least 18 yrs. of age.
  • ·         1:00–4:00 pm, Sun., Apr. 8, 2012, Baltimore Easter Basket Distribution: Many volunteers are needed on this day.
  • ·         9:00 am–12:30 pm, Sun., Apr. 22, 2012 Multiple Sclerosis Walk: “Team Happy Helpers” participates in honor of several people at Navy-Marine Corps Stadium.
  • ·         5:00–7:30 pm, Mon., Apr. 23, 2012, Global Youth Service Day:  To celebrate the day for the 18th year, children and parents will be treated to dinner, games, presents, and more at the Glen Burnie Chuck E. Cheese. Each youth volunteer will serve as a buddy to one or two children.

 

Sarah’s House

Sarah’s House is a supportive housing program for homeless women, children, and men in Anne Arundel County providing case management, childcare, transportation and employment services at Ft. Meade.  Volunteer orientations are offered most Friday evenings 7:00pm-8:30pm at Sarah’s House.  Volunteers can work directly with guests or behind the scenes. There are a variety of volunteer opportunities for individuals, families, businesses and groups of all faiths and ages. Current needs include: 1.Volunteers for evening childcare from 6–8pm on Mondays and Wednesdays while parents are attending GED classes and AA groups; 2. Volunteers for evening childcare from 6– 8pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays beginning on October 11th while parents are attending accounting certification classes; 3. Volunteers for afternoon childcare from 4– 5pm on Mondays while parents are attending life skills classes; and 4. Volunteers for tutoring children with their homework from 5:30pm until 7pm Mondays through Thursdays during the school year.
