Magothy River Middle School Teacher Removed From Classroom

UPDATE 05:17pm 02/10/2012: We just received a very brief statement from the Anne Arundel County Police Department:

The individual was not arrested, but removed from the school. The incident was medical in nature, however, I’m not at liberty to specify further.

UPDATE 03:05pm 02/10/2012: We followed up with Bob Mosier, spokesman for Anne Arundel County Public Schools on the removal of Prunesti.  We asked Mosier to clarify his prior statement and specifically asked if he could address if Prunesti was escorted from the building, by whom, and if he was handcuffed. Mosier told Eye On Annapolis, “No. I can tell you he was not removed by police from the classroom. That is incorrect.”

This seems to be in conflict with a statement made to the Broadneck Patch, where spokesperson Maneka Monk referred any additional questions to the Anne Arundel County Police Department.

Eye On Annapolis first received information about this incident earlier this morning from two different parents of students at Magothy River Middle School. Both relayed that their children reported that Prunesti was “arrested” and removed from the classroom in handcuffs.

UPDATE: From Anne Arundel County Public Schools spokesman, Bob Mosier:

The teacher was not arrested, as some have claimed. He was escorted from school based on a community concern not related to the school. We cannot comment further.

We have heard reports that a Magothy River Middle School physical education teacher was removed from the classroom yesterday by Anne Arundel County police.

While the school issued a letter, the wording was very vague.

A Magothy River Middle School parent has told us that Jon Prunesti, a PE teacher, was removed from the classroom by police yesterday. Their children described it as an “arrest.”  There is no public record with the courts of an a recent arrest or charges.

We have contacted Anne Arundel County Schools and Anne Arundel County Police for a comment and will update this as soon as one is available.
