82-Year Old Severn Man Shot

On February 29, 2012, at approximately 4:20 a.m., officers from Western District responded to a report of a shooting in the 1300 block of Sleepy Hollow Road in Severn. The female caller advised that her father had just been shot inside of his residence, which is located across the street from her residence.

Upon arrival, officers located the 82-year-old male victim sitting in the kitchen with an apparent gunshot wound to the lower extremity. Further investigation revealed that the victim was alone in his bedroom when he heard a noise coming from the kitchen area of his residence. When the victim went to investigate the noise, he was confronted by an unknown male suspect, who apparently made a forced entry into the home. During a struggle with the suspect, the victim was shot with what is believed to be his own handgun that he was carrying in his hand. The victim and suspect continued to struggle until the suspect was able to wrestle the gun away from the victim and flee the residence. A four door, dark-colored Chevrolet truck with large wheels was observed in the area and the truck appeared to have been lifted well off of the ground.

Responding officers canvassed the area, but were unable to locate the suspect. The victim was transported by Fire Department personnel to Baltimore Washington Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries and was later transferred to Shock Trauma. At this time, the shooting remains under investigation and it is unclear if this was a random or targeted incident. Anyone with information on this incident is asked to contact the Western District at 410-222-6155.

Suspect: White male, approximately 18-20 years old, 6’0”, clean shaven with a heavy build, wearing a black sweatshirt with a hood and black pants .
