On Saturday, February 11th from 9am-1pm, The Summit School will open its doors for a public reading screening event for 1st-8thgrade children between the ages of six and thirteen. Although not designed to diagnose learning disabilities, this screening will afford parents the opportunity to learn about their child’s reading strengths and weaknesses. All screenings are administered by a trained member of Summit’s staff. Each appointment lasts up to 50 minutes, costs $25 and will assess decoding and comprehension abilities. The screening is comprised of a standardized test that will compare reading abilities (including comprehension, fluency and de-coding) to that of other students of the same grade/age. Broad recommendations may be offered for follow up. A follow-up summary with scores and interpretations and a short narrative will be mailed out to parents immediately following the screening. Parent conferences are not included as part of this screening.
