Polar Bear Plunge 2012 : Photos

Preliminary reports are saying that nearly 15,000 people jumped into the chilly Chesapeake Bay in Sandy Point State Park between Friday and Saturday. This year, the temperatures cooperated. The sun shone and the water was a somewhat tolerable 39 degrees.

On Friday, a squall that came through the area blew down the Rams Head Ice Lodge–a 300′ by 150′ tent. With not enough time to re-erect it, and no desire to give up-the area was quickly morphed into the Rams Head Ice Patio!  Live entertainment played all day including Fuel and local favorite, The Rovers (who will also be playing at the 2nd Annapolis Irish Festival in warmer weather).

As to the plunge itself, pictures speak louder than words and here are some of our favorites. Just click on an image and then page your way through. If you are interested in seeing the rest (there are lots), please visit our online gallery where you can download high resolution copies.  And stay tuned, we will be posting some more photos from our photographer, Kevin Carroll shortly as well as a video.
