County Executive John R. Leopold has announced that work has been completed on a critical link between Interstate 295 and Fort George G. Meade thanks to a creative public-private partnership.
“Faced with limited funding options to proceed with our Base Realignment and Closure infrastructure projects, we had to approach this differently than other road improvements,” County Executive Leopold said. “This is a success story because the private sector stepped up to speed this process along.”
The one-mile stretch of Route 175 from Northbound I-295 to Rockenbach Road was widened by one lane in each direction and a center lane was added at a cost of about $6 million. The work was performed by developers of Parkside under a Memorandum of Understanding with the State Highway Administration. Improvements beyond those needed for Parkside will be eligible for impact fee credits as building permits are approved. The County provided the necessary study of Route 175 at a cost of about $242,000.
