The Chesapeake Regional Tech Council (CRTC) is pleased to announce the Cyber Center at Anne Arundel Community College (AACC) as the Title Sponsor for its prestigious 7th Annual TechAwards program, a celebration of technology excellence in the Chesapeake region that recognizes outstanding achievements in the areas of innovation, strategic growth, customer service and stewardship.

The theme for the 7th annual program is Vision 2032: 20 Years in Tech. In addition, the CRTC added a new award category called Future Innovator that promotes excellence in technology advancement by a regional high school or college student. Given AACC’s focus on training the future workforce in Information Assurance and Cybersecurity, the 2012 TechAwards title sponsorship was viewed as an opportunity to not only look to the future but also celebrate the institution’s present, phenomenal success.

“AACC was one of only six community colleges in the country to receive national recognition by the National Security Agency for academic excellence in Information Assurance through academic year 2014-15. We are working tirelessly to help train and fill an estimated 12,000 defense-related positions in the region by making our program even more robust through new cybersecurity labs and an expanded curriculum,” explains Kelly Koermer, Dean of AACC’s School of Business, Computing and Technical Studies, which includes the new Cyber Center.

“The TechAwards provides a perfect platform to showcase AACC’s achievements alongside those of this vibrant region,” continues Koermer, who also serves on the CRTC Board of Directors and chairs the organization’s Workforce Development Forum.

Kris Valerio, Executive Director of the CRTC, sees AACC’s sponsorship as a perfect match for the tech council’s mission to bring commercial, government and education together in propelling the advancement of technology in the Annapolis-DC-Baltimore region. “This is the first time an educational institution has been Title Sponsor of the TechAwards, and we are proud to partner with one of the nation’s top cyber training centers to showcase the regions current top technology achievement and inspire future innovation.”

The 2012 TechAwards will be held March 29th, 2012 from 5:30 to 9:00 pm at the Hilton Baltimore BWI Airport. Award nominations are currently being accepted. The deadline for submission is January 25, 2012.
