Anne Arundel Schools & County Spar Over Funding. A fight over $12 million in Anne Arundel County is going to the state.School officials claimed county officials have again shortchanged the district’s budget, and it appears neither side is any closer to a solution over how much money should be spent on local schools, WBAL-TV 11 News Education Alert reporter Tim Tooten said.

Special Flight Takes Wounded Warrior Home. A very special flight from Maryland carried a wounded veteran home for the holidays Wednesday. Veterans Airlift Command matches wounded service members who need flights home. More than 1,000 pilots take part in the program to fly the service members home to their families and back free of charge.Marine Sgt. Michael Frazier and his fiancee arrived Wednesday morning at Signature Flight Support at Baltimore-Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport. Thanks to Stephanie Cooper-Greenberg and Erwin Greenberg, Frazier boarded a private flight to Miami to visit his fiancee’s family.

Girl, 2, Found Alone In Apartment. Prince George’s County police said the father of a 2-year-old girl who was found alone in a Capitol Heights apartment has been charged.Police spokesman Cpl. Evan Baxter said Wednesday that 24-year-old Anthony Venson has been charged with reckless endangerment, unattended child and neglect of a minor.Police said they received a call about 12:30 p.m. Tuesday from the child’s mother, who was in a hospital and unable to reach the child’s father.

Student Choir Spreading Holiday CheerSchools are preparing for the holiday break, but not before spreading some cheer.The women’s choir from Marriotts Ridge High School in Howard County is spreading some holiday cheer.”It’s just fun to see everyone enjoying our singing. It really helps get into the holiday spirit,” said Ayla Hoffheiser, a Marriotts Ridge senior. The students performed for the residents at Encore Assisted Living in Ellicott City on Wednesday, singing everything from favorite Christmas carols to Chanukah songs, and even some jazz music that brightened the day of audience members.
