New Local Cooking Class To Debut In January

Looking for the perfect holiday present for the gourmand in your life? Want to build on your own menu repertoire? Roundz Gourmet Market, a culinary shop in Gambrills, is now taking registrations for a series of cooking classes that will address kitchen basics and haute cuisine.

Each 2-hour, hands-on class will be held at Roundz Gourmet Market (2299 Johns Hopkins Road, Gambrills) under the direction of award-winning Chef Zachary Pope. Class fees are $50 and class size is limited. Roundz offers cooking class gift certificates for holiday giving. Knife Skills & Vegetable Cookery

Knife SkillsOne trip to a kitchen specialty store is all it takes to realize there are more styles of knives available than you could ever imagine…but which one is right for you? In this class, Chef Pope will discuss how to choose and use the right knife. Students should bring their favorite kitchen knife for demonstration. Vegetable cookeryYou are standing at a big box food store staring at 3 lbs. of broccoli. You know it’s a great price and you know your family will eat it, but can they handle a week’s worth of steamed broccoli? You need variety. The Vegetable Cookery portion of this class will show you how to prepare vegetables in so many ways that your family won’t even recognize them… but they will love them! Topics covered will include: Blanching, Boiling, Searing, Frying…Oh What To Do?

Quick Chicken & Fine Fowl

January 23, 26, 30 & Feb. 2 – 7:30 PM

Chicken is one of the most cost-effective proteins out there, which is good and bad. Good- we can eat it often. Bad- most folks only have 2 decent chicken recipes. Chef Pope will work with students on quick preparation for rushed weeknight dinners as well as a gourmet approach when you have the luxury of time. Topics covered will include: The Big Picture: Cooking Chicken for Multiple Meals; Match Your Seasoning with your Preparation; Rubs vs. Marinades; Grill, Roast, Sauté?
