On December 3, 2011, the Anne Arundel County Police Department’s Northern District received a complaint of possible sexual child abuse. The witness stated that she walked in on the suspect as he was performing a sex act upon a male juvenile, who was known to both the suspect and the witness.
A joint investigation was immediately initiated by the Criminal Investigation Division’s Child Abuse Unit and the Anne Arundel County Department of Social Services. The investigation revealed that there were two other acts of sexual misconduct involving the suspect and the same victim within the past month. All of these acts occurred at the suspect’s residence.
The suspect was identified as Kurt Melvin Singleton, 52, of 8 Eugenia Avenue, Glen Burnie, Maryland. After numerous interviews, the suspect was charged on December 7, 2011, with Sexual Abuse of a Minor, Second Degree Sex Offense, Third Degree Sex Offense (three counts), Fourth Degree Sex Offense (three counts), Second Degree Assault (three counts) and Perverted Practice. The suspect is being held at the Anne Arundel County Detention Center on a $500,000 bond.
