Annapolis Chorale Performs Handel’s Messiah At St. Anne’s

Live Arts Maryland presents a very special weekend of GF Handel’s “Messiah” at historic St. Anne’s Church Thursday through Sunday, December 16-18, performed by the Annapolis Chorale’s Chamber Chorus and the Annapolis Chamber Orchestra under the direction of Music Director J. Ernest Green.  The nearly perfect acoustics and historic ambience of St. Anne’s make it the perfect location to experience this much-loved oratorio.  “What sets our ‘Messiah’ performances apart from all the others is the particular kind of energy and excitement our singers bring to each concert.  They love singing ‘Messiah’ and its beauty and power always bring out our best,” says Mr. Green.  “With the acoustics at St. Anne’s the music enfolds the audience,”  he says.

“Messiah by Candlelight,” Friday, December 16 (8 p.m.), includes Part I of “Messiah” (typically the holiday portion) and the majestic “Hallelujah Chorus.”  Saturday, December 17 (8 p.m.) brings the addition of a special celebration of the Nativity with carols and madrigals.   The weekend concludes with a special Sunday afternoon performance on December 18 (3 p.m.) that includes Part 1 of “Messiah,” the “Hallelujah Chorus” and a holiday carol sing-along.  For this year’s “Messiah” performances, Mr. Green welcomes a quartet very special guest artists, soprano Brandie Sutton, mezzo soprano Madeleine Gray, tenor Adam Caughey and baritone Shouvik Mondle, all of whom add beautiful artistry to Handel’s masterpiece.

Tickets for all “Messiah” performances are $37/adults and are on sale now at the Maryland Hall Box Office, 410-280-5640 or online at www.marylandhall.org.  Discounted group rates are available.  The Student Rush free ticket program is in effect for  all “Messiah” concerts.  For more information on any of these events, visit www.liveartsmaryland.org.
