Baysox Holiday Program Helps 21 Families

Louie delivered food, clothes and presents to the Foote family in old Bowie as part of Louie’s Holiday Hope Project

The Bowie Baysox and their partners announce today that Louie’s Holiday Hope Project helped 21 families in need, including 48 kids, during the 2011 holiday season.  The team partnered with Prince George’s County Fire/EMS Department, the Bowie Police Department and Bowie Youth & Family Services to provide food, winter coats and Christmas gifts to the families, based on each family’s needs.

Baysox Director of Marketing Brandan Kaiser commented on the great community support for the program.  “Louie’s Holiday Hope Project had another very successful year of assisting families in need around the holidays,” Kaiser said. “It’s great to receive so much support from the local community, which gives the children we assist a brighter and happier holiday. The Baysox would like to thank our partners this year and all those that contributed to Louie’s Holiday Hope Project.”

Debby Shipler, Bowie Youth & Family Services Clinical Supervisor, noted the importance of Louie’s Holiday Hope project on the local community.  “There are families in Bowie that have economic problems and I think that this program gives them an opportunity to give to their children and that is very important,” Shipler said. “We are appreciative of the Baysox are everything they do for this program.”

The Prince George’s Fire/EMS Department donated 20 food boxes to the cause and the Bowie Police Department pitched in 35 toys that were donated to families in need. Bowie Youth & Family Services provided 17 families that were in need of assistance and the Baysox helped four additional families that were nominated by friends or family.

In addition to the Bowie Police Department, Prince George’s County Fire/EMS Department and Bowie Youth and Family Services, the Baysox would like to thank all the fans who donated coats and toys to the program. More than 100 warm coats were collected through the Baysox coat drive.

The Baysox held a raffle in November to raise money for the program. The raffle raised more than $500 that was used to purchase toys and games for the kids.
