Annapolis Mayor Joshua J. Cohen and Annapolis Economic Development Corporation President and CEO Lara Fritts are pleased to announce that the new Wild Bird Center has opened in Annapolis.

Ms. Julie Curd has just opened a new Wild Bird Center store, conveniently located at 1410 Forest Drive in Annapolis, Maryland.  The Wild Bird Center of Annapolis is a unique retail business offering customers a wide range of nature related products including premium quality bird seed, bird feeders, bird houses, optics, wind chimes, bird baths, hardware and a distinctive variety of gifts to appeal to customers who wish to be more connected with nature.

“Ms. Curd’s enthusiasm is refreshing and I applaud her entrepreneurial spirit,” said Lara Fritts, Annapolis EDC President and CEO. “The Annapolis area is a haven for this type of woman-owned unique retail business.”

The Wild Bird Center store caters to those who enjoy the development of backyard habitats for birds and other wildlife.  While focusing on Annapolitans’ sensitivity to the environment, Ms. Curd’s business provides a wide variety of environmentally safe items, hobby accessories and nature related gifts.

“With more than 400 different species of birds in Maryland, the Wild Bird Center of Annapolis is a valuable resource for City bird watchers,” Mayor Josh Cohen said.  “The numerous species found in Annapolis is just one more example of our City’s natural beauty and its enduring appeal.”

As a nature enthusiast and amateur nature photographer, Curd has made a decision to leave her 20 year career as a corporate manager to pursue a path of entrepreneurship.  Her pursuit for a small business opportunity led her to the Wild Bird Center of Annapolis.  She has relocated the business to the accessible and popular area of Clock Tower Place in Annapolis.   “I am thrilled to open a business which aligns with my own passions and interests while also enhancing the lifestyle of others in the Annapolis community” states Curd.   “The team at Wild Bird Center of Annapolis is looking forward to being a community resource and a one-stop shop for those who love to feed or watch birds.  In the future, we will be expanding our offerings to include educational events, on-site and off-site workshops and bird walks.”

“We are fortunate to have a wide variety of beautiful birds here in the Chesapeake Bay region of Maryland and our goal is to help people attract and enjoy them” said Curd. “We are here to help individuals create backyard bird and wildlife habitats which enhance our community and provide our customers an enjoyable hobby.”

To this end, the store carries more than a dozen seed types, a large selection of bird feeders, nesting boxes, and many birding accessories for backyards, decks and patios.  The store also offers a unique selection of creative items such as books, cards, stationery, jewelry, garden accessories and decorative nature items.  “The Wild Bird Center of Annapolis will be the preeminent store in the region to cater to all your wants and needs for your backyard feathered friends. We are very excited and look forward to serving the local community for many years.”
