Police are investigating after they said a high school lacrosse player cross-checked another player in the head with his stick.The incident occurred Sunday afternoon during a game between DeMatha Catholic High School and North East High School.Anne Arundel County officers said the game, played at the Brooklyn Park Middle School, was interrupted by an altercation between players.

Redistricting Plan Could Cause Political Shifts; Many Unhappy. Protests and a threat of a lawsuit greeted legislators meeting this week for a special session to re-draw the state’s congressional districts.11 News reporter David Collins said a new congressional map is the focus of this week’s special session but that state lawmakers are already introducing bills on other topics.Gov. Martin O’Malley wants to use the special session on redistricting as a sounding board of ideas for stimulating the state’s economy and funding highway and school projects.

Lawmakers Looking To Raise Gasoline Tax By Up To 15¢. Lawmakers are taking up a proposal to raise the gas tax by 15 cents per gallon in Annapolis on Tuesday.The governor supports raising the state’s gas tax for the first time in 20 years, but many drivers question the wisdom of tampering with the gas tax when they said they’re already struggling to pay bills.Drivers said every trip to the pump is a drain on the wallet, as gas prices hover around $3.50 per gallon.Each gallon of gas bought in Maryland includes a state tax of 23.5 cents, but a governor-appointed commission on transportation funding is recommending that lawmakers phase an increase of 15 cents per gallon over the next three years.
