Knox Case Highlights Study Abroad Safety Issues. As Amanda Knox heads home to America after her murder conviction was overturned in Italy, her plight is a reminder to students studying abroad of what they need to know before heading overseas.Knox was arrested on charges of murdering her roommate while studying abroad four years ago. On Monday, a jury overturned her conviction.Knox went to Italy as one of thousands of unknown American college students studying abroad, a rite of passage for many students.

Proposed MD Redistricting Map Stirs Political Landscape. A proposal to redraw Maryland’s congressional districts is already generating discussion about shaking up next year’s election because it would make Democrats more competitive in the western district currently held by Republican Rep. Roscoe Bartlett. Democratic Gov. Martin O’Malley’s advisory committee on redistricting approved 4-1 Monday the plan that will be considered by legislators when they convene for a special session beginning Oct. 17.

3 Sickened By CO Leak. Three people were taken to Shock Trauma on Monday morning after coming in contact with a carbon monoxide leak.Baltimore County firefighters went to a home in the 500 block of Patuxent Avenue in Rosedale shortly before 10 a.m. after getting reports of the leak.It’s not clear what caused the leak or what condition the victims were in.

Vigil Highlights Domestic Violence Awareness. Dozens gathered Monday evening to celebrate survivors of domestic violence and to mourn the victims.The candlelight vigil at the Bel Air Armory included speeches, singing and prayer. The names of 31 Maryland victims who were killed were called off one by one.Some survivors of abusive relationships who were able to get help also attended.”It is the hardest thing I’ve ever gone through. You care about somebody and you think they care about you, too, but if it’s someone who really loves you, they don’t treat you like that,” said survivor Liz Barrett.
