The indie craft movement sweeping the country is now firmly planted in the Annapolis area thanks to 2hands indie craft market, which is hosting its fourth market next month on Nov. 5th, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Once again, Severna Park Community Center’s Holy Grounds Youth Center (located at 617 Baltimore-Annapolis Boulevard) is providing the historic setting, offering lots of character in an open, airy space for shoppers to browse the handicrafts of nearly 30 highly skilled artisans. And the talent flows on stage, as locally well known musicians perform for the crowd.
The musical line up includes:
2hands market is the brainchild of three local designers, Ally Tierney, Jill Davolio and Carleen Birnes. Their goal is to bring an updated spin to the traditional craft fair by showcasing sustainable, inventive craft against a backdrop of live music by emerging musicians.
“We thought that there was something missing here. Many of us were already traveling around to indie craft fairs elsewhere. We wanted to have that opportunity in our hometown,” said Ally Tierney, co-founder and exhibitor at 2hands market. And the response has been positive with more than 700 shoppers coming through the doors of Holy Grounds Youth Center at last year’s Nov. market, along with a steady stream of requests from crafters and musicians to be involved in the market, with some traveling from Frederick, Baltimore and Southern Maryland to participate.
2hands market is also a vehicle for giving back. Exhibitors are donating a portion of their sales to CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) Association, which ensures victims of child abuse and neglect grow up in safe and permanent homes, thanks to the help of a professional network of volunteers, appointed by the court, to speak in the best interest of the children. The market is an offshoot of 2hands studios (2handsstudios.com), an accessories studio and all-around creative space located at 2062 Generals Highway.
