Local Mosquito Population Triples After Flooding.  Dry conditions that preceded last week’s flooding in Maryland have combined to make a perfect storm for mosquitoes.Baltimore County Agricultural Inspector Tony Dewitt told 1090 WBAL-AM that the population of mosquitoes right now is about triple what is normal for the area. He said the risk for people contracting West Nile is also up.Dewitt said the best thing to do is to get rid of standing water near your home.He also suggested wearing long sleeves and repellents to protect yourself from bites.

Woman Gets Prison Time For McDonald’s Beating. The woman who was caught on tape beating up a transgender woman inside a Rosedale McDonald’s in April will serve five years in prison.Teonna Brown, 18, was sentenced Tuesday to 10 years in prison, with all but five years suspended. Brown pleaded guilty in August to a hate crime charge and assault in the attack on 22-year-old Chrissy Polis.The incident gained nationwide attention after an employee at the McDonald’s in the 6300 block of Kenwood Avenue recorded the beating and posted it online.

Casey Anthony’s Lawyer Joins Giordano Defense. The lawyer who gained fame in the Casey Anthony murder trial in Florida said Tuesday that he will now help a Maryland businessman jailed in Aruba in the presumed death of his travel companion. Jose Baez said he has been retained to defend Gary Giordano. He declined to provide details about his role in the case. Baez was the lead defense attorney for Anthony in her trial on charges of killing her 2-year-old daughter, Caylee. Anthony was acquitted of killing her in July but convicted of four counts of lying to police.

Tanker With 3,000 Gallons Of Gas Stolen. Authorities in Kent County said a tanker truck containing more than 3,000 gallons of gasoline was stolen.The theft of the 2008 International truck occurred sometime Monday night or Tuesday morning in the 25000 block of Commerce Lane, according to investigators.The 10-wheeler truck has the logo of Alger Oil Inc., which services the upper Eastern Shore, northern Delaware, Harford County and southern Pennsylvania.
