UPDATE: Anne Arundel Police are advising they believe this to be an assault and not a home invasion and the victim was targeted.  See release below:

On September 22, 2011, at approximately 9:00 a.m., officers from the Southern District responded to the 500 Block of Francis Nicholson Way in Annapolis for a report of a robbery.

Upon arrival, responding officers and detectives learned that the robbery was actually a forced entry with two victims inside of the residence. Based on a preliminary investigation, it appears that three male suspects forced their way into the house after the male victim opened the front door. The suspects subsequently assaulted the victims and then fled from the residence in a dark-colored sedan. The male victim was transported to Shock Trauma for treatment and the female victim refused medical treatment.

Based on information obtained by detectives, this does not appear to be a random act of violence and it appears that the victims were targeted in the incident. Additionally, one victim is known to at least one of the suspects. This is an active investigation. Anyone with information on this incident is asked to contact Detective Praley at the Southern District Detective Unit at 410-222-1965
