Giant Food Teaches Region’s Youth About Healthy Ideas

Giant Food is partnering with Field Trip Factory to host Kid Healthy Ideas™, in-store field trips which reinforce nutrition and healthy living curriculum taught in local schools. Teachers and school administrators can arrange for a school bus to drop off classes at select Giant Food stores for a fun, hands-on experience, filled with interactive activities and a sampling of healthy ideas.

“With increasing rates of childhood obesity in our region, Kid Healthy Ideas™ provides children with a fun and interactive way to learn about proper nutrition and a healthy lifestyle,” said Jamie Miller, public and community relations manager for Giant Food of Landover, Md. “We’re excited to work with Field Trip Factory to help educate our region’s youth about healthy habits. There is no better place to start making healthy decisions than at the supermarket!”

Kid Healthy Ideas is free and helps children pre-K through sixth grade develop and enhance skills in healthy living and nutrition, good oral care and exercise. Tour leaders are located in each participating store and are trained to modify field trips to be grade appropriate. In addition, children will have an opportunity to learn about ways to recycle and about environmentally-friendly products found in a grocery store as well as receive a complimentary activity book at the end of each tour as a reminder of what they have learned.

For a listing of participating stores, visit www.fieldtripfactory.com and enter your zip code. Teachers and school administrators looking to schedule a Kid Healthy Ideas tour can call 1-800-987-6409.  Store tours run approximately 60-90 minutes in length and are limited to 30 participants per tour.
