Foster Grandparents Recognized

At the 2011 Mardi Gras Masquerade Recognition nearly 60 volunteers were honored for their service in the Foster Grandparent Program (FGP) at the Anne Arundel County Department of Aging and Disabilities. The event was held Sept. 9 at Woods Memorial Presbyterian Church in Severna Park, with games and food. Guests came attired in their best party attire and wore their handmade masks.

Foster Grandparent (FG) Romaine Parker was recognized for volunteering for 24 years and FG Theresa Spruill for 23 years. Kristin Plumer, program director, also honored FG Lucy Harris for 19 years and FG Lorraine Hall for 18 years of service as well as 54 other volunteers.

FGP volunteers age 55 and older mentor children with exceptional needs, serving at schools, family support centers, Head Start and other youth facilities. Call 410-222-4464 for information.
