A second pedestrian was struck in Glen Burnie early this morning. This is in addition to the accident on Quaterfield Road yesterday evening. From the Anne Arundel County Police:
On September 25, 2011 at approximately 0329 hours the Anne Arundel County Police and Fire Departments responded to the area of Furnace Branch Rd. and S. Meadow Rd., for a report of a crash involving a pedestrian. Upon arrival officers located a maroon 1999 Chrysler 300 four door, displaying MD tag 9AD7361 stopped in the middle of the north bound lane of traffic near the double yellow line. The driver of the vehicle was soon identified as Joshua Allen Foard w/m 22 years old of 4121 Doris Ave. Baltimore, MD 21225. Lying in the south bound lane of Furnace Branch Rd. next to the Chrylser was an unknown white male subject who was unresponsive. Paramedics attempted to treat the unknown white male but determined that he had received injuries incompatible with life and declared the unknown male dead at the scene.
Through investigation it was determined that the Chrysler, which was driven by Mr. Foard, was travelling north on Furnace Branch Rd, Just south of the intersection with S. Meadow Rd. The unknown white male pedestrian, who was walking on the north bound shoulder, attempted to cross the roadway going from east to west, absent any pedestrian right of way. The pedestrian failed to yield the right of way to oncoming traffic and stepped out in front of Mr. Foard’s Chrysler. The Chrysler subsequently struck the unknown pedestrian. After the crash Mr. Foard called 911 in an attempt to get medical attention for the pedestrian.
Preliminarily, it does not appear that speed or alcohol contributed to this crash. It appears at this point in the investigation that pedestrian error was a significant contributing factor as well as pedestrian conspicuity. Another press release will follow once fingerprint identification has been made of the unknown pedestrian and his next of kin have been notified.
