The Tomato Is Coming (Again)

Homestead Gardens Tomato Festival 2011There are just a few days left until the Third Annual (1st rescheduled) Annapolis Tomato Festival and Chesapeake Chili Cook-off at Homestead Gardens in Davidonsville, Md., on Saturday, September 10th, from 12pm to 6pm.

There are still a few slots left for contestants in The Chesapeake Chili Cook-Off, Salsa Contest and Ledo Pizza-Eating Contest. The entry fee to the Chesapeake Chili Cook-Off is $25, and is open to individuals, restaurants and organizations to compete for the top prize of $1,000, as well as more than $250 in gift cards to local businesses and the coveted People’s Choice Chili Trophy. The $10 fee for entering the Salsa Competition applies to either individuals or restaurants/caterers, which will be each judged in separate categories. The Ledo Pizza Eating Contest is also free to all participants.

This family-friendly event features live music by celebrated local blues artists Andy Poxon and The Sly 45 Trio. Samples of fresh tomatoes, salsa, and chili are included in the price of a ticket, and additional food and beverages such as pizza and pork BBQ are available for purchase.

Individual tickets are $10, and family tickets for up to four people are $25, with children under 10 admitted free of charge, and the event will take place in rain or shine. A portion of the profits from the Tomato Festival and Chili Cook-off will go to support Save the Coconuts, an Annapolis-based nonprofit organization dedicated to raising funds and awareness to fight breast cancer and make life easier for those living with the disease.
