Students at 10 elementary schools, one early education center, and one high school will begin the 2011-2012 school year one day later than other students due to construction projects at their schools. The following schools will open on Wednesday, August 24, instead of Tuesday, August 23:
● Broadneck Elementary
● Brock Bridge Elementary
● Brooklyn Park Elementary
● Four Seasons Elementary
● Germantown Elementary
● Linthicum Elementary
● Pershing Hill Elementary
● Severn Elementary
● Sunset Elementary
● Woodside Elementary
● West Meade Early Ed. Ctr.
● Glen Burnie High
All middle and high school students will begin the year on a staggered schedule, with only students in sixth and ninth grades reporting on the first day of class at their specific school. The staggered openings will give those students a chance to get acclimated to their new surroundings before the remaining students return to class the next day.
Kindergarten, prekindergarten, and ECI students will also start school on a staggered schedule. At West Meade and the 10 elementary schools with delayed openings, parent-teacher conferences for those grades will be held beginning August 24, with the three-day staggered entrance schedule beginning August 26. Other elementary schools and the Ferndale Early Education Center will begin those schedules a day earlier. Parents will receive their child’s start date at their parent-teacher conference.
