Police: Teen Driver In Fatal Crash Had No License. Police in Anne Arundel County said a 19-year-old who was driving without a valid license crashed into another car early Sunday, killing the driver.The crash happened around 1:45 a.m. at the intersection of Route 3 and Davidsonville Road in Crofton.Police said Elizabeth Ramirez, 19, of Millersville, was trying to turn left onto Davidsonville Road from southbound Route 3 when she hit Javaid Firdaus, 63, of Glen Burnie, who was headed north on Route 3.

DREAM Act Supporters File Suit Against Referendum. Supporters of Maryland’s Dream Act have filed a lawsuit to block next year’s referendum vote on the bill.The measure passed by the Maryland Legislature during the 2011 General Assembly gives illegal immigrants the right to pay in-state tuition when attending Maryland colleges and universities.Teachers, students and community members filed the lawsuit in Anne Arundel County Circuit Court to reverse the state board of election’s decision allowing voters to decide the matter through a referendum question on the 2012 election ballet.

Maryland Toll Increase Delay Expected. Maryland’s transportation secretary said toll increases for state bridges, tunnels and roads will most likely be delayed.The state has been holding public hearings on the proposed toll increases, which have been met with opposition.Transportation Secretary Beverley Swaim-Staley said because of changes being considered in response, members of the Maryland Transportation Authority board may not vote on a final schedule on Aug. 25 as planned.A 30-day notice is required once a plan is adopted, and that could delay the first increases to Nov. 1 or later, instead of Oct. 1.

MD Reps Split Debt-Ceiling Votes. The U.S. House on Monday passed the debt-ceiling dealworked out by President Barack Obama and congressional leaders, sending it to the Senate for consideration a day before the deadline for the government to face possible default. The Senate is scheduled to vote on the legislation at noon Tuesday.
