Expert Warns Americans On Verge Of Economic Chaos. As lawmakers cast votes and traded partisan barbs, the markets are bracing for the prospect of a default next week and the economic chaos that may come with it.Local economist Anirban Basu said people have very good reason to be frustrated and worried.”If it translates ultimately to people who finance our debt not being paid, then the consequences could be quite dire,” Basu said. “In fact, the sky would – to a certain extent – be falling if the federal government defaulted. And it would fall in various ways, like Social Security potentially, Medicare, Medicade, potentially.”Basu said many Americans depend on their Social Security checks to survive. Group Preps Minorities To Understand Foreclosure. A national debt deal may have been reached Sunday, but Maryland real estate experts are still concerned about how the fragile economy will affect the market. The National Bar Association, a group of lawyers and judges, on Sunday made foreclosures its focus at an annual convention in Baltimore. They said they’re concerned the housing market will soon see a spike in foreclosures.”Even with the debt ceiling raised, you still have the American public who has to pay for the deficit, which is $1.4 trillion in 2011, which translates to $8,000 a taxpaying person,” said Roger Staiger of Stage Capital LLC.That makes advocates for minority communities nervous, too.
