Can You Cheer Up A Lonely Person?

Want to cheer up a lonely person by visiting with your pet or young child? Consider signing up for an orientation session to be held in September for the Pets on Wheels, Mom and Me, and Life Enrichment programs.

The Life Enrichment program provides weekly visits to residents of nursing homes and assisted living sites as well as hospitals, says Diane Dzambo, programs coordinator. Volunteers of all ages share time each week to enrich older persons’ lives. Pets on Wheels and Mom and Me are complementary visitation approaches with pets or small children that operate under the same program. The motto is “Love Licks Loneliness,” says Ms. Dzambo, who notes that the staff at these facilities also appreciates a visit from Fido or Fluffy.

Participants can attend a one-hour orientation at 10 a.m. Sept. 6 at the Anne Arundel County Government Building, 7320 Ritchie Highway, Glen Burnie, and at 6 p.m. Sept. 14 at the Pascal Senior Activity Center, 125 Dorsey Road, Glen Burnie. Please do not bring your pet or young child to the training session.
