To meet the needs of the growing caregiver population, the Anne Arundel County Department of Aging and Disabilities Family Caregivers Support Program is offer a one-day workshop for new caregivers. The goal is to help them manage the care of their older and/or disabled loved ones with the purpose of preventing re-hospitalization and reducing caregiver stress.
Caregiver 102 will be presented from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Aug. 13, at the Arnold Senior Activity Center, 44 Church Road, Arnold. Caregivers will learn essential home care skills including how to successfully bathe a loved one, protect skin integrity, and complete a safe transfer using a gait/transfer belt. Participants also will have the opportunity to discuss problematic behaviors and receive practical management tips.
The free workshop will be presented by Mary Fridley, a registered nurse and founder of Gero-Resources LLC. The workshop is sponsored by Heartlands of Severna Park and Seasons Hospice. To register, call 410-222-4464, Ext.043, or register online at www.aacounty.org/aging.
