Wall Collapse Leaves One Dead

UPDATE 03:52pm 07/29/2011: From the Anne Arundel Conty Police:

On July 29, 2011, at approximately 9:59 a.m., officers from the Western District responded to the 7000 block of Arundel Mills Circle in Hanover for a report of an industrial accident.  

Upon arrival, officers spoke with witnesses on scene, who advised that the adult male victim, identified as Leon Ray Sax, 27, of 65th Street in Hanover, Pennsylvania, was working inside of a construction lift at a construction site at Arundel Mills Mall when a concrete wall collapsed and trapped him under the wall. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. Additionally, a second adult male victim, identified as Darbin Suazo-Jimenez, 25, of Massie Street in Manassas, Virginia, sustained life threatening injuries and was transported to Shock Trauma in Baltimore.

The deceased male was transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore for an autopsy to be conducted to determine the final cause and manner of death. The incident is being treated as an accident. The investigation will be continued by Maryland Occupational Safety and Health (MOSH).

UPDATE: Our media partner is reporting that the trapped victim has been freed and is being transported to Shock Trauma. The accident occurred on the construction site of the Arundel Mills Live casino .

Fire crews are on the scene of a wall collapse at Arundel Mills. Presumably this is at a construction site.

Arriving medics are advising one victim was DOA and another is being rescued by the County’s Technical Rescue Unit.
