Rotary Crab Feast August 5th

Make plans now to attend the Annapolis Rotary Club’s 66th Annual  Crab Feast on Friday, Aug. 5, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium in Annapolis.  This special event is not only the world’s largest crab feast but also a major fund-raiser which benefits local community and cultural organizations.   The event will be held rain or shine, as most tables are protected from the elements, says Randy Goff, chairman.

The crab feast is all-you-can-eat and drink, including large and #1 male crabs plus Maryland vegetable crab soup, sweet Maryland corn on the cob, pork and beef barbeque sandwiches, all-American hot dogs, draft beer, assorted sodas and water.  More than 3,000 people are expected to attend and finish off 478 bushels of crabs, 3,400 ears of corn, 130 gallons of crab soup, 1,800 hot dogs, 150 pounds of barbeque, and hundreds of gallons of beer and soft drinks.  The hot dogs and barbeque are all donated by Adam’s the Place for Ribs.

Also for sale will be the Crab Feast T-shirts and the Annapolis Rotary Club’s very own Crab Feast Mania cookbook containing more than 240 crab recipes.  The cookbook is $14 plus $4.95 shipping and handling.  Call 410-763-9393  for information.

All proceeds from the crab feast are donated to local charities.  The Annapolis Rotary Club donated $49,500 from last year’s crab feast to a total of 42 local charities and non-profit groups, and has contributed more than $1 million since the first Annapolis Rotary Club Crab Feast in 1946.  Mr. Goff said this year’s event is being dedicated to the memory of Phil Richebourg, a fellow Rotarian who joined the Rotary club in 1946 and actively participated in every Crab Feast for 65 years.  Mr. Richebourg died in April at the age of 91, and is greatly missed by his many friends in the community.

While it is an all-you-can-eat affair, please eat all you take.  If you have more crabs than you need, please share with a neighbor.  This will reduce waste and help preserve a precious natural resource, Mr. Goff said.

Parking at the stadium is free.  Enter the stadium parking lot from Gate 2 on Farragut Road or Gate 6 on Taylor Avenue and park on the west (Gold) side of the stadium.  All other parking areas are paid or reserved.  Containers, drinks, backpacks, large bags, coolers or similar items will not be allowed inside the event.

Advance purchase tickets are $60 for adults, $20 for children ages 3 to 12, and free for children under age 3.  To purchase tickets in advance, visit www.annapolistickets.com or call 1-877-333-9667 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.  Advance purchase sales end at noon on July 31, 2011.  In addition, advance purchase tickets are available while supplies last from the following local merchants:  Admiral Cleaners, 10 Taylor Ave,; CFG Community Bank, 1419 Forest Drive; Bags by Mimi, 1 Thompson St.; Bay Ridge Wine & Spirits, 111 Hillsmere Drive; Heritage Baptist Church, 1740 Forest Drive; J.
