Rams Head Promotions announces the inaugural Silopanna Music Festival at Anne Arundel County Fairgrounds in Crownsville, Maryland on August 27, 2011. The festival will proudly feature Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings, Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue, Matt and Kim, Fitz and The Tantrums, Jimmie’s Chicken Shack, All Mighty Senators, Grilled Lincolns, Harper Blynn and many more. Tickets go on sale Friday, June 17th at 10a.m. EST. The festival is all open to all ages.

Annapolis-based Rams Head Promotions is producing the one day event at the fairgrounds. According to Rams Head booking agent Mark Mangold, “What’s really exciting about this lineup for us is the quality and depth of the acts. Each one of these performers shine live – their shows at our other venues have elicited such great responses for their energy and showmanship that they were handpicked for Silopanna.”

Featured headliner Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings is a nine-piece Brooklyn based collective steeped within the sounds of soul and funk. They are known for their incredible live show and have been featured at Coachella, Lollapalooza, Bonnarroo and Austin City Limits. According to the Washington Post, “There’s no tighter, more inventive ensemble active in deep funk and soul circles today.”

Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue lastest work is of a rare artist who can draw both the unqualified respect of jazz legends and deliver a high-energy rock show capable of mesmerizing international rock stars and audiences alike. With such an unprecedented mix of rock, funk, jazz, hip-hop and soul, he had to create his own name to describe his signature sound: Supafunkrock! Andrews is the kind of player who comes along maybe once in a generation.

Matt & Kim are a two-piece: Matt plays keys and Kim plays drums. They started the band in 2004. To date, Matt and Kim have been on the Billboard New Artist chart for 78 weeks and the single Daylight is certified gold, having sold over 500K. Their video for Lessons Learned, won an MTV VMA for Breakthrough Video and an mtvU Woodie award for Best Video.

Fitz and the Tantrums may be the breakout act of 2011. Their monster hit Moneygrabber may very well be the song of the year, and their live show is among the best going.

Harper Blynn is classic pop reimagined. The band’s instantly hummable music is remarkable not only for its breadth but also its intimacy, ranging from four-on-the-floor dance stompers to near-whispered pleas for understanding. As inspiring as their recordings are, Harper Blynn effortlessly transcends them in concert, delivering three-part harmonies over a smartly-arranged blend of guitar, keyboards, bass and drums that is at once minimalistically modern and timelessly organic.

“Rounding the lineup out with the best regional bands from the Annapolis and Baltimore area is an exciting part of this as well.” says Mangold, “People who just show up for the big nationals are going to be surprised by just how good our local music scene is here. Those who already know are going to share the same expectations we have; that is going to be a gem of a festival AND it takes place in our own backyard.”

Jimmie’s Chicken Shack is an American alternative rock band from Annapolis, Maryland. They emerged through MTV as one of the first Post-Grunge bands of the era. Jimmie’s Chicken Shack was discovered in 1994. In January 2000, the band received arguably its highest compliment to date when it was chosen as openers for 311. Fresh off a New Years show with the Red Hot Chili Peppers, the Omaha, Nebraska quintet announced a month-plus long, 27-show tour, spanning from February 21 to March 29, with Jimmie’s Chicken Shack as the sole opening act (including one special guest appearance by Incubus at a Winstom-Salem show)

All Mighty Senators is a rhythm fused quintet from Baltimore, which has toured the United States and Canada extensively. AMS released their first recordings under Baltimore indie Merkin Records before releasing four albums under their own Dog Eat Dog Records to both critical and popular acclaim. Their live shows, fronted by the charismatic Landis Expandis and guitar-god Warren Boes, have remained one of the most revered on the East Coast, and have established AMS with a diverse and rabid following, ranging from indie-philes to rave cadets to festival freaks.

According Bob Waugh, longtime radio personality at Annapolis-based 103.1 WRNR, “In Silopanna, there finally is a local music festival we can really get behind. Together with the Ram’s Head, we hope to build a legitimate annual multi-act festival– with equity, for years to come. We’re excited about the initial line-up and the future potential of Silopanna.”

Contributing to the atmosphere of the festival, there will be 20 local vendors as well as a gaming area featuring corn hole, ladder golf, dunk tanks, face painting, hula hooping, misting tents and more. Food will be available for sale as well as cold beverages, featuring beer from Fordham Brewing Company and Bud Light.

A family friendly event, children under the age of 6 are admitted free. There will be face painting, bubbles and other kid-friendly activities.

Additionally, Silopanna Music Festival will be hosting an instrument drive (new, or gently used) to benefit the Annapolis city public schools. Donors of instruments will receive a Silopanna brand product, still to be determined. “It is important that we give back to the community around us; children’s programs are always near and dear to our hearts” says Rams Head owner Kyle Muehlhauser.
