Pedestrian Struck, Killed Near Light Rail Stop. A man hit by a car while crossing a busy street in Glen Burnie on Tuesday afternoon died from his injuries, police said. Anne Arundel County police said Douglas Frank Pohlman, 51, of Davidsonville, was struck shortly before 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at 7390 Baltimore-Annapolis Boulevard near the Cromwell light rail station.Officers who arrived at the scene said they saw Pohlman lying in the middle of the street in an unmarked area of the road between two crosswalks.

Police Charge man In Severna Park Dog Shooting. Police have charged a man who investigators said fatally shot a pit bull over the weekend.Charles McConnell Jr., 39, of Severna Park, was arrested and charged with misdemeanor discharging a firearm in a residential area and misdemeanor animal cruelty.The charges stem from an incident Saturday evening in which officers said McConnell fired a handgun at a pit bull in the 300 block of Benfield Road.

Code Red Heat Alerts Wednesday And Thursday. Health officials have issued a Code Red heat alert to take effect Wednesday and Thursday.  Health officials recommend drinking plenty of water and staying out of the heat as much as possible.

Police: Woman Raped While Moving Into Apartment. Baltimore police said they’ve charged a man with raping a woman in her 20s on Tuesday afternoon as she was moving into her apartment in the 900 block of Saint Paul Street.Detectives said the woman was treated at an area hospital.Kareem Mason, 37, was charged Wednesday morning with rape and sexual assault.Officers said Mason also stole items from the woman’s apartment.The initial information about the assault was put out by the Mount Vernon-Belvedere Association and later released by police.Detectives said they took Mason into custody shortly after the information was released.
