Congratulations On Your Move

UPDATE: The Annapolis Economic Development Corporation has advised us that the property in question is indeed in the City and is located at 2563 Forest Drive and not at 2401 Solomons Island Road (per Office Depot).  Our error was made when examining the Ward maps (PDF) for the city and the parcel of land appears to lie outside of the City limits. We regret the error and apologize.

Apparently, Office Depot completed their relocation from the Harbour Center to the new digs on the corner of Solomons Island Road (Route 2) and Forest Drive.  Both the Annapolis Economic Development Corporation and the Mayor tweeted about it. So, what could possibly be the problem?

While wishing businesses is all well and good, it seems odd that an organization funded by the taxpayers of the City of Annapolis is excited about another business opening in the County and not the City.   The Annapolis Economic Development Corporation is funded by the City at $496,500 (proposed FY 2012 Budget PDF, Page 3 Mayor’s Proposed Budget) per year, the City has split costs to perform studies, and the City currently pays for their rent at 93 Main Street.

This property lies just outside the boundary of Ward 3 and remains in Anne Arundel County.
