Bausum & Duckett Electric Changes Hands

Tim Holt

Bausum & Duckett Electric has announced the retirement of owner, Tim Holt, after 43 years of service.  As part of his retirement transition, Holt has sold the company to long term employees and Vice-Presidents Mark Llewellyn, Tommy Luc, and John Dorsey.  Mark Llewellyn will assume the position of president of the company.

In a letter to employees and customers, Holt wrote, “The necessary planning for this transfer of ownership has been an ongoing process since 2004. Let me assure you that these three gentlemen have over 60 years of combined employment at B&D.  They fully understand what has made B&D a very successful electrical contracting firm and are committed to continuing that operating philosophy into the future.“  Holt added, “I have a lot of things to be grateful for in my life and the relationships I have with my employees will always be treasured.”

Holt joined Bausum & Duckett in 1968.  In 1983, he was one of four employees to purchase the company from original owner Harold Bausum.  He became the sole owner of Bausum & Duckett in 2003.  Under his leadership, Bausum & Duckett expanded its service offerings with specialized Solar, Service, Residential, Commercial, and ElectriCare divisions, and took on larger and more complex projects.  However, as it grew, Holt made sure the company stayed to true to its roots:  “No matter what we do, we take care of our customers—big or small, commercial or residential.  It’s always been about building relationships, trust, being comfortable with who you’re dealing with, servicing the customers, making sure they’re happy with the end product, and giving them a quality job for a fair price,” said Mr. Holt.

New president, Mark Llewellyn has been with Bausum & Duckett for more than 30 years and has played a key role in managing the operations and administrative aspects of the company in recent years.  “Tim will be sorely missed by all of us at Bausum & Duckett.  He’s been a dedicated, strong leader and has left a lasting legacy on our company.  I’m proud to have the opportunity to uphold the commitments to strong customer service and value that have made Bausum & Duckett what it is today.”

The sale and transfer of ownership to existing employees creates the third generation of Bausum & Duckett owners, as the
company wraps up its 50th anniversary.  “It has always been my goal to duplicate the same opportunity of ownership that was afforded to me by the previous owners—that through dedication, hard work and loyalty, the possibility of future employee ownership was a very real possibility.  With this transaction, that goal is accomplished,” said Holt.

Holt plans to keep himself busy during retirement by spending time with his family, traveling, fishing, and playing golf.  “In between this, I plan on doing some volunteer work and hopefully crossing off items on my “bucket list”, which I must admit is quite extensive.  I don’t want to reflect on my life with any regrets so my goal is to live the rest of my days to the fullest,” he said.
