A very special groundbreaking was held last week in Brooklyn Park at the future site of a home for homeless veterans. County Executive John R. Leopold joined Kathleen Koch, CEO of Anne Arundel Community Development Services Inc. and officials from House of Hope to celebrate the event.
The facility will be called Patriot House, and will house up to six people. It will provide transitional housing for homeless veterans and is the first facility of its kind in Anne Arundel County. The existing building will be demolished and replaced by a 3,000 square foot structure. The $633,750 price of Patriot House is funded by a combination of federal, state and county grants.
“We have a responsibility to support our veterans who have sacrificed so much for our country,” County Executive Leopold said. “Many are suffering from ailments such as post traumatic stress syndrome or drug addiction. This project is part of our safety net services to help the homeless and our veterans.”
The project is scheduled to be completed by Veteran’s Day this November.
