Captain Jennifer Kaye takes the wheel for the Schooner Woodwind’s Pirate Week, May 16-19

Shiver me timbers, there be pirates on the horizon, maties.

Stand fast! Captain Jack Sparrow won’t be the only pirate afloat this season. Schooner Woodwind, a normally staid a law-abiding sailing ship that leaves daily from Ego Alley, will be cruising out of Annapolis with a pirate crew of its own, hosting a whole week of pirate-themed sails in anticipation of the grand debut of the new blockbuster film  Pirates of the Caribbean 4: On Stranger Tides in local theaters on May 20.

Schooner Woodwind Sailing Cruises has designated the weekdays leading up to the film’s opening as “Pirate Week” where all sunset sails (6:30-8:30) will have a pirate theme to them. Every evening during the week of May 16-19 Woodwind guests are encouraged to dress up like pirates, or just come along and enjoy the fun aboard the fast and fun 74-foot sailing schooner departing from the Annapolis Marriott Waterfront Hotel.

Captain Moone will entertain on the Woodwind
Captain Fletcher T. Moone (aka Brad Howard of the Pyrates Royale) will entertain guests aboard the Schooner Woodwind during the Pirate Chantey Night Cruise on May 19.

The Schooner Woodwind Pirate Week offers an exciting (and informative!) selection of themed sails, beginning on Monday, May 16 when a guest lecturer from the Historic Annapolis Foundation will kick off the week with the historical perspective of pirates on the Chesapeake Bay.

On Tuesday, May 17 don your pirate garb (again) and join the Schooner Woodwind’s grog (beer) tasting cruise, hosted by Annapolis’s favorite pirate, Captain Thomas Flint (aka Cliff Long). Let Captain Flint regale you with story and song while you sample a selection of piratical elixirs from Heavy Seas beer: Golden Ale, Dubbel Cannon and Small Craft Warning Uber Pils. Go ahead, sing along!

On Wednesday, May 18, dress like a pirate and come along for a Night at the Races to watch the racing fleet round the buoys at the mouth of the Severn River.

Join in the chorus to “blow the man down” during the Pirate Chantey sail, Thursday, May 19, led by Captain Fletcher T. Moone (aka Brad Howard of the Pyrates Royale) and Captain Thomas Flint (aka local historian, author and musician Cliff Long) as they fill the air with their songs wry and ribald as the sun sets on the Annapolis skyline.

Friday, May 20 the new Pirates of the Caribbean opens up, so check out the local listings in your area.

Tickets to all of these events go on sale six days prior to the date of the sail. Online tickets available at www.schoonerwoodwind.com or call 410-263-8994.  $39 Adults, $37 Seniors, and $25 for Children under 12.
