This morning, 1006 1st Class Midshipmen marched onto the field at the Navy-Marine Corps Stadium. This afternoon, they walked off as Ensigns in the US Navy or 2nd Lieutenants in the US Marine Corps.

As with all things associated with the Naval Academy, the morning was full of pomp and circumstance and the graduates listened to Secretary of Defense Robert M. Gates explain how they are entering service at a pivotal time in our military history. His address was light at times as he referred to Notre Dame still licking the wounds of a Navy defeat. At times, his address was somber (and even choked up the Secretary)  as he told the men and woman that he prayed for them  to serve with honor and to come home safe.

Eye On Annapolis was on the field capturing the morning in photos and video .
