19 Year Old Shot, Killed In Brooklyn. Baltimore police are investigating a fatal shooting in Brooklyn that happened Thursday afternoon.Police were called to the 4100 block of 10th Street near Stoll Place around 1 p.m. to find that a 19-year-old man had been shot several times.The victim was rushed to a hospital, where he later died, said Detective Kevin Brown of the Baltimore Police Department.There’s currently no word on a suspect or motive.

NOAA: Above-Average Hurricane Season Coming. The National Weather Service is expecting an above-average hurricane season, so it’s more important than ever that people in the mid-Atlantic region are prepared, according to WBAL’s Lowell Melser.At a Thursday morning news conference, the head of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) warned of a dangerous hurricane season.NOAA officials believe there will be anywhere from 12 to 18 named storms with winds of 39 mph or higher.

Private Schools Beef Up Bullying Policies.  Many of Maryland’s private schools are being told to draw up new bullying and harassment policies.A new bullying requirement for non-public schools became law on Thursday. It targets schools currently receiving state money.Those who backed the measure said it’s designed to deal with a critical concern facing all Maryland students, according to 11 News education reporter Tim Tooten.There’s already a state bullying and harassment policy on the books in Maryland, Tooten said, but until now it stopped short of covering private schools taking part in state-funded education programs.

City Hopes To Generate Millions From Preakness. Baltimore locals await the 136th Preakness event that is set to happen on Saturday.The Preakness has traditionally brought an economic boom for the city; last year, crowds generated $1.3 million worth of state and local taxes.Power Plant Live, a collection of bars, clubs and restaurants in Baltimore, is making good use of the Preakness hype. Before the main event on Saturday in 2010, the establishment teamed up with 98 Rock and drew huge crowds with free concerts.
